Redeem People’s Academy in Jos, Plateau State, is another community where TASTE Nigeria has completed a water project which is changing the lives of many. Through the support of World Serve International, the school now has access to safe water and a thriving school garden. Using the new water system for irrigation, students and teachers recently celebrated a bumper harvest of tomatoes in their first farming season. As well as improving nutrition, the garden is helping students gain practical agricultural skills, inspiring self-reliance, sustainability, and hope for the future. The impact at Redeem People's Academy shows how integrated WASH and livelihood interventions can strengthen schools, empower students and build resilient communities.
Over 12 days during May, our Evangelists carried out in Wase Local Government Area, in Bayan D utse Wase, a Fulani Community an evangelistic outreach. The outreach comprised:
One-to-one evangelism to reach out to different members of the community to share the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ with them
Film show a good and easily accessible way of communicating to both children and adults of all educational levels the gospel.
Football matches were organised to engage the youths of the community with the good news of Jesus Christ.
There is a borehole which was sunk over a year ago but the pump has not yet been installed. We are looking to raise the £5,000 needed to pump water for their domestic use and to irrigate their crops.
The outreach saw 20 from the Fulani community profess Christ.
Even as we rejoice and praise God for communities which are getting life changing water and hearing the Gospel of hope, so we mourn and cry out to our God for those communities suffering unimaginable atrocities.
I received this heartbreaking report from one of our our partners only in the last couple of days:
On the 15th of May, 2026, 46 children were kidnapped from Mussa in Asikira-Uba Local Government Area of Bornu State.
In another heartbreaking incident, 39 children alongside 7 teachers, including a school principal, were kidnapped in Orire Local Government Area, Ogbomosho, Oyo State. One of the teachers was brutally killed by beheading.
Reports also indicate:
23 children abducted in Kogi State.
35 children abducted in Kebbi State.
This brings the number of recorded kidnapped children in Nigeria within the same month to at least 143. Many more incidents have occurred across Plateau State and other regions. In December alone, over 20 adults were reportedly kidnapped in Plateau communities.
These are not just statistics. These are children, families, teachers, believers, and communities living in fear and pain.
The question remains: What do we do?
Rescue missions cannot fully function where insecurity continues unchecked and where systems meant to protect citizens appear unable or unwilling to respond effectively.
Yet, our hope is not in governments but in the One who is greater than every authority – Jesus Christ.
We call on all believers, churches, communities, and all people of compassion to rise up in prayer for the release and safety of these victims, many of whom come from Christian schools and Christian communities.
When one part of the Body of Christ suffers, the whole Body suffers. Persecution against Christians anywhere is a burden the all Christians must carry together.
We must not become comfortable while families live in terror. We must not grow silent while innocent children remain in captivity. We must respond with compassion, prayer, advocacy, and practical support.
Pray for:
- The safe release of all kidnapped victims
- Comfort and strengthening for affected families
- Protection for vulnerable communities
- Wisdom and courage for rescue and relief workers
Praise for:
- God’s faithfulness in keeping us all safe especially our staff in Nigeria who travel to many remote and often flash-point areas to carry out projects.
- The ongoing impact our two Evangelists are making as part of our “life changing water” in communities across Nigeria
- The 20 new converts from the Fulani community.
- The £1,000 and £500 donations from Trinity Grace Church Ramsbottom and The Quilting Bee, Sheffield respectively.
- The successful water and agricultural project at Redeem People’s Academy, Jos, Plateau State
Pray that:
- Our staff will continue to honour God in all that they do both in the UK and in Nigeria.
- All our staff would be kept safe as they travel across Nigeria carrying out projects and evangelism in vulnerable communities.
- The communities which are under attack would be given the protection and the help that they need to return to their villages to rebuild their shattered lives
- The Lord would protect our staff and partners from the endemic kidnapping for ransom being fuelled by terrorism and the worsening economic state of the country, and that those who have been kidnapped would be released unharmed
- All kidnap victims, including the 143 children would be released and the family of the teacher who was murdered would know God’s comfort and strength
- Our TASTE Bud Scheme and our Every Person Counts promotional video would encourage more supporters to join us in our work of providing clean water to and the sharing of the Gospel with communities in Nigeria
