There has been discussion of a ‘quiet revival’ in the UK in recent years, alongside anecdotal accounts of an increase in church attendance. Naturally, this has been contested in some quarters, but Ligonier's State of Theology UK survey provides significant supporting evidence that many congregations are seeing an influx of newcomers. This strengthens the growing sentiment that churches in the UK have an open door to teach many people who are new to the Christian faith. Remarkably, 28% of evangelicals surveyed agreed with the statement ‘In the past 1–2 years, I have started attending Sunday church services for the first time as an adult.’ This indicates that nearly one-third of UK evangelicals are newcomers to churches. A closer look at the background of these ‘new evangelicals’ shows that they are more likely to be younger adults aged 25–44, more likely to be male, and more likely to be from ethnic minorities.
